How to Create Curb Appeal for Your Home

We spend a lot of time inside our homes and often forget how important it is to make the outside inviting and appealing especially if you plan to sell your home. We have put together a list of ideas to give your house that extra pop and create curb appeal for your home.

Add Some Interest to Your Porch

Your porch/entrance is the focal point of your home whether you have an actual porch or not there are several ways you can refresh your entrance and give you house some great curb appeal.

Update or Paint Your Door

Whether you go with a natural wood or a fun pop of color updating or splashing a coat of paint on your door draws the eye right to the entrance.

Get some Decor

Potted plants, outdoor lanterns, herb gardens... There are plenty of ways you can spruce up your porch decor.

Update your pillars:

If your porch posts are plain or outdated you can spruce them up pretty easily. You can actually build around the existing posts if they are still in good condition or replace them all together. Check out these before and after shots to see what a difference some nice new pillars can make.

Add some furniture

Nothing beats a porch swing, or if you are limited on space add in a cute storage bench that can also serve as shoe concealment.

You can find some beautiful outdoor furniture at reasonable prices online at Joss and Main, WayFair, Dot And Bo etc.

Highlight Your Windows

Your home has eyes--- and just like a splash of mascara and a touch of eyeliner can make your eyes pop-- your house needs a little of that love. Window box planters, nice shutters, or trimming out the windows are all great ways to add some beauty to your house.

Edge and Border Your Flower Beds

There are a lot of different materials you can use as a flower bed border- the important thing is consistency- pick one material and stick with it for all of your flower beds.

Some great options are:

River Rocks- these are pretty and really easy to setup

Brick

Cement

Stone

Potted Plants

In front of the garage, lining your porch steps, at the end of your driveway, on a patio, or even in flower beds.

Light the Way

Good lighting goes a long way in your homes presentation and is useful for security.

Path Lights:

Porch Lights:

Garden Lights:

Walkways

Add some pavers for common paths to give your yard some dimension AND keep people off your lawn.

Update Your Skirt

No- not that skirt! The skirt on your house. A lot of older houses have a cement foundation showing below the siding which isn’t all that attractive to look at. You can actually update this really easily (look up foundation refacing) with brick, stone, or even metal.
