Favorite Interior Design Item of the Week: Chalk Paint Additive
Chalk paint has been getting a lot of hype lately and there are a few big reasons why:
No need to remove the prior finish or sand
Paints metal
Paints pre-finished surfaces without issues
Great for antiquing furniture
You can find chalk paint in a wide variety of colors, but if you have a nice latex you would like to use on a project but still have the benefits of chalk paint there are chalk paint additives you can use.
The brand I have used is Dover’s Mix. It is very simple to use- mix the additive with a little bit of warm water and then mix it in with your latex paint.
I have had great results with this product. In fact, it goes on a little better than quite a few of the premixed chalk paints on the market and has less streaks so long as you are using good quality latex paint. It does also tend to be easier to fully mix. Chalk paint is very thick and takes a bit of effort to mix every time you open the can, but the chalk paint additive tends to be a bit easier to incorporate.
